Annur

Annur is a town panchayat and taluk base camp of Annur Taluk of Coimbatore region. It is a suburb of Coimbatore city found north-east around 30 kilometers 19 miles from the focal point of the city. Closest airplane terminal is Coimbatore International Airport, which is around 27 kilometers 17 miles and the closest railroad station is Coimbatore Central, which is around 30 kilometers 19 miles away. Different urban communities/towns adjacent Annur are Mettupalayam, which is 21 kilometers 13 miles away in the west, Avanashi, which is 18 kilometers 11 miles away in the east and Punjai Puliampatti, which is around 18 kilometers 11 miles in the north.

The name Annur is accepted to have been originated from "Vanniyur", later changed to Anniyur and now to Annur. The fantasy behind the name says that, more than 1000 years back, when a little seeker hit a stone under a "Vanni" tree, it began dying. He was dumbfounded and called the town individuals to care for this issue. Later they found a "Suyambu" Lord Shiva Idol there and fabricated a sanctuary Manneswarar temple.
