Arbaejarsafn

Árbæjarsafn Museum was opened in 1957 and also it is part of the Reykjavík City Museum. This museum is the historical museum of the city of Reykjavík as well as an open-air museum and a regional museum and its purpose is to give the general population a knowledge into the living conditions, work and recreational exercises of the general population of Reykjavík in prior circumstances.

It was first imagined as a branch of the Archives and Historical Collection of Reykjavík, an outside exhibition hall where the living condition of past ages could be re-made in a real way.

The Historical Museum in Reykjavík and the Árbæjarsafn were consolidated under the name Árbær Museum in 1968.
