About Akranes Folk Museum
The Akranes Folk Museum, previously known as the Akranes Museum Centre, includes a people museum, an exhibition hall and a few 19th century homes and boats in Gardar, Akranes, Iceland.
The museum homes a few exhibitions, in addition to a huge open-air museum, which is composed particularly of homes and boats, which include the vintage Gardar house and the 86-tonne ketch Sigurfari. The history of the Akranes Folk Museum dates back to 1959, when the museum changed into based. Ten years previous, neighborhood pastor Jon M. Gudjonsson had began amassing artefacts from the Akranes place. By the time the museum changed into opened he had already accrued between 1500 and 2000 artefacts. Originally positioned in the old Gardar residence, the museum moved to a new area in 1974. The antique Gardar residence is now a part of the museum's residence series.
