About Orkeny
Orkeny is a small city in Pest County, Hungary, 50 km south of Budapest. The mediaeval village became formed beside the historical Pest-Constantinople motorway. Today that is one of the maximum important roads of Hungary. Orkeny seemed inside the royal charters in the fifteenth century under the call Ewrkyn or Ewrken.
The village was destroyed in the early days of the Ottoman rule, and remained deserted until the 18th century because of the steady wars and looting armies. In 1784 a brand new technology started out with colonising efforts of Prince Antal Grassalkovich who built a small manor house, and dispensed parcels and plenty to the new population. In 1848 the St. Leopold Church become constructed in fashionable Neoclassical fashion. In 1888 the estate was inherited by means of Istvan Paloczi Horvath. The new proprietor has executed a lot for the improvement of the village: he established the well-known School of Agriculture, distributed lots to the landless peasants and planted new orchards and vineyards.
