About Nagykallo
Nagykallo is a small metropolis in Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg county, within the Northern Great Plain area of eastern Hungary. Before World War II it belonged to Szabolcs county. Nagykallo become already an oppidum inside the 14th century. Its call probably comes from the vintage word kallo which means "collecting region". Nagy means "large"; this prefix turned into used to distinguish among Nagykallo and the close by Kiskallo, which later have become part of Nagykallo.
In 1315 King Charles Robert granted the town rights to keep a market, later the county councils had been held right here, consequently the metropolis became the centre of the location. After the Ottomans burnt the metropolis in 1556, the citizens built a stone fortress for defence. In 1603 Istvan Bocskai settled Hajduk within the town. After his demise they moved to Hajduboszormeny, but Nagykallo remained an vital industrial centre. It was the belongings of the Kallay de Nagy-Kallo own family. In 1630 George II Rakoczi occupied the town and issued the Proclamation of Independence here.
