Devecser

Devecser is a town in Veszprem County, Hungary. In the Middle Ages there have been 5 villages inside the place of modern day Devecser: Devecser, Kisdevecser, Szek, Meggyes, and Patony. These villages multiplied in the twelfth and 13th century. There is an Esterhazy fort inside the town. While the Ottomans occupied most of crucial Europe, the place north of lake Balaton remained inside the Kingdom of Hungary, captaincy among Balaton and Drava. Until 1918, DEVECSER turned into part of the Austrian monarchy, province of Hungary; in Transleithania after the compromise of 1867 within the Kingdom of Hungary.

During World War II, Devecser was captured with the aid of Soviet troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front on 26 March 1945 inside the path of the Vienna Offensive.
