About Csepreg
Csepreg the towns of the northern part of Vas County along the Repce in the Koszeg district. In Csepreg, the earliest permanent human settlement traces are from the New Stone Age. The remnants of a cemetery and a dwelling house were discovered in the Bronze Age, but the Celtic times are rich in archaeological finds. The Romans and the Avars also settled in Csepreg, where it was possible to cross the Repce River. Today's city belonged to the East Frank Kingdom in the 9th century. In the 10th century, the conquering Hungarians plundered and then took possession of the area, which was later the residence of several tribes.
Already in the age of the Arpad- kings, the neighborhood of Csepreg could be considered a densely populated area, as there were two fortifications, a remnant of a church and several other finds of similar age. Its inhabitants were mostly warrior-free, then serviens, and later smallholders. The first mention of the city dates back to 1255 , but it was probably the most important settlement in the wider area. In the 14th century it was mentioned several times as a civitas, its coat of arms was known before 1362, but in 1390 the king gave it to the Kanizsa, making it a market town.
