Since 1998, the town's coat of hands has borne the Latin inscription "Civitas Fortissima" the bravest metropolis due to the fact in January 1919 Czechoslovak troops crossed the demarcation line delineated in December 1918 in guidance for the Treaty of Trianon, illegally occupying cities south of the road, consisting of Balassagyarmat. The neighborhood population managed to thrust back the Czechoslovak troops in a extreme military stumble upon wherein some of the civilian contributors misplaced their lives.
