Authoritatively, it has a place with Sha Tin District.
The main Ma On Shan Village still houses around 80 families. Yan Kwong Lutheran Church, one of two remarkable sanctuaries developed in the midst of the zone's mining prime, was restored in around 2014 as an inside to highlight the history and culture of the old town.
Some place inside the slope of Ma On Shan was an iron mine. The dig was for a long while surrendered before the later new town change. The quarrying workers talked a vernacular which is a blend of ious lingos in Southern China.
