About Former Lime Kiln and Match Factory
It may be fairly shocking to realize that the tranquil island of Peng Chau was at one time a hive of modern action and the focal point of Hong Kong's lime and matchstick generation. Hints of these busier days passed by can be found in the vestiges of the island's previous lime oven and match plant.
Lime Kiln
Mirroring the size of the business in the nineteenth century, the Sing Lei Hap Gei Lime Kiln Factory comprised of two structures. There was an aggregate of 11 furnaces on the island. Lime was created by consuming shellfish shells, mollusk shells and coral, and was broadly utilized as a part of development, paper-production, colors and ship upkeep. The business went into decay when present day development materials started to show up in Hong Kong in the 1950s.
Match Factory
Peng Chau's match industry took off when Liu Hong-sheng, a.k.a. 'The Match King' from Shanghai, manufactured a processing plant on the island in the 1930s. Presently, all that remaining parts of the Great China Match Factory, which was Hong Kong's greatest, are the vast numbered stones that denoted its limits. Because of wellbeing concerns, these were the 'line in the sand' through which non-staff individuals weren't permitted to pass. In the 1970s, the approach of reasonable lighters made the processing plant outdated.
