Iglesia La Merced
About Iglesia La Merced
La Merced Church is a baroque church in Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala. La Merced also features San Judas Tadeo’s altarpiece with beautifully embossed silver. When Justo Rufino Barrios nationalized this church it transformed into the headquarters of the National Police; however it was restored in 1999 and now exists as a four-room museum with elaborate paintings, religious statues, and sculptures, and an organ quoted as the most sonorous in all of Guatemala, all of which date from the 17th and 19th century. A feat of colonial workmanship, this stunning church is a must see. It is one of the best place in this city.
