About Erechtheion

The Erechtheion or is an antiquated Greek sanctuary on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens in Greece which was devoted to both Athena and Poseidon.

The eastern piece of the building was committed to Athena Polias, while the western part served the clique of Poseidon-Erechtheus and held the sacred places of Hephaistus and Voutos, sibling of Erechtheus.

As indicated by the myth, Athena's hallowed snake lived there.

The snake was bolstered nectar cakes by Canephorae, the priestesses of Athena Polias, by custom the ladies of the old group of Eteoboutadae, the gathered relatives of the legend Boutes.

The snake's infrequent refusal to eat the cakes was thought a deplorable sign.

One of those unique six figures, evacuated by Lord Elgin in the mid nineteenth century, is currently in the British Museum in London.

The Acropolis Museum holds the other five figures, which are supplanted nearby by reproductions.
