Lennoxlove House
About Lennoxlove House
Lennoxlove House is a notable house set in forests a large portion of a mile south of Haddington in East Lothian, Scotland. The house involves a 15th century tower, initially known as Lethington Castle, and has been expanded a few times, chiefly in the 17th, 19th and 20th hundreds of years. The house is secured as a classification. A recorded building, and is portrayed by Historic Scotland as "one of Scotland's most old and striking houses". The lush home is incorporated on the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland, the national posting of noteworthy gardens.
It is presently the seat of the Duke of Hamilton and Brandon. The grounds of Lethington were obtained by Robert Maitland of Thirlestane in 1345. The Maitland family developed the most punctual piece of the building, the L-plan tower house at the south-west of the building. Mary of Guise remained at Lethington in 1548 when she came to see Haddington with Piero Strozzi. The next year it was scorched by the English troops who were then involving Haddington. Unmistakable individuals from the Maitland family incorporated the artist Richard Maitland 1496– 1586, his child William Maitland of Lethington 1525– 1573, Secretary of State to Mary, Queen of Scots, and his child James Maitland of Lethington b.1568.
