About Eglinton Castle
Eglinton Castle was a large Gothic castellated house in Kilwinning, North Ayrshire, Scotland. The old seat of the Earls of Eglinton, it is found only south of the town of Kilwinning. The first Eglinton Castle was singed by the Earl of Glencairn in 1528. The current stronghold was worked somewhere in the range of 1797 and 1802 in Gothic castellated style overwhelmed by a focal 100-foot substantial round keep and four 70-foot external towers, it was second just to Culzean Castle in appearance and glory.
The establishment stone of the new Eglinton Castle in Kilwinning was laid in 1797, the twelfth Earl of Eglinton, was glad to have the service performed by Alexander Hamilton of Grange, granddad of the American Hero Alexander Hamilton. Eglinton was the most eminent post- Adam Georgian chateau in Ayrshire. Amongst numerous things of intrigue, the stronghold contained a seat worked from the oak timbers of Alloway kirk and the back of the seat was decorated with a metal plaque which bore the entire of Burns' ballad Tam o' Shanter. This was sold at a sale in 1925. The past Eglington palace was depicted around 1563 1566 as a toll castell, however noo quality againsts any power. Explore and experience this place more.
