Callendar House
About Callendar House
Callendar House is a manor set inside the grounds of Callendar Park in Falkirk, focal Scotland. During the 19th century, it was overhauled and stretched out in the style of a French Renaissance chateau melded with components of Scottish baronial design. Nonetheless, the center of the building is a 14th century tower house. Amid its 600-year history, Callendar House has played host to numerous conspicuous authentic figures, including Mary, Queen of Scots, Oliver Cromwell, Bonnie Prince Charlie and Queen Victoria. The current building is by a long shot the most considerable chronicled working in the region, with a 300 ft 91 m facade.
It is secured as a class A recorded building, and the grounds are incorporated into the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland, the national posting of huge gardens. The house lies on hold of the second century Antonine Wall, worked by the Romans from the Firth of Clyde to the Firth of Forth. In the 12th century Thanes Hall or Thane House, situated toward the east of the present house, was one of the seats of the Callander family who were Thanes of Callander. In the fourteenth century the fifth Thane Sir Patrick Callander, upheld the case of Edward Balliol to the royal position of Scotland. Sir Patrick Callander was later attainted and his domains were relinquished.
