About Burns Monument
The Burns Monument in Kay Park, Kilmarnock, Scotland, honors the writer Robert Burns. It is situated at a hoisted position inside Kay Park, toward the east of Kilmarnock Town Center. The landmark was opened in 1879, and is a classification B recorded building. In 2004 a fire wrecked piece of the landmark. The building was reestablished and stretched out as a parentage focus, reviving as the Burns Monument Center in 2009. Kilmarnock has numerous connections with Burns; the main version of his work was printed here in 1786, by John Wilson, a nearby printer. Of this first release just 612 duplicates were printed, and duplicates of this uncommon book are currently known as Kilmarnock Editions.
On Burns Night 1877, a development to erect a remembrance in Kilmarnock was started. Memberships came in so rapidly that the coordinators chose to research the likelihood of a dedication working and in addition a marble statue. In October, a plan by neighborhood designer Robert S Ingram was acknowledged by the panel, and he started the readiness of illustrations. In December, an outline rivalry for the statue pulled in 21 passages, and William Grant Stevenson of Edinburgh was made a decision about the winner. The establishment stone was laid on 14 September 1878, by R. W. Cochran-Patrick of Woodside, Depute Provincial Grand Master for Ayrshire.
