About Catalan Bay

Catalan Bay is a little sound and angling town in Gibraltar, on the eastern side of The Rock far from the principle city. Although the inception of Catalan Bay's name is reported, several hypotheses exist together. Narrative proof proposes that the inlet is named after a gathering of around 350 Catalan servicemen accepted to have settled there in the wake of having helped the Anglo-Dutch powers who caught Gibraltar amid the War of Spanish Succession on 4 August 1704.

Confirmation bolsters the hypothesis that Catalans settled in Catalan Bay offering ascend to the above etymological definition. The name La Caleta signifying 'little sound or bay' impressively pre-dates that of Catalan Bay. The angling towns of La Atunara and La Caleta are said in a Royal Dispatch of 6 March 1634, being under the locale of the "Tercio del Mar de Marbella y Estepona" in the Kingdom of Granada.

Since it has been called La Caleta for any longer than it has been called Catalan Bay. The principal specify of Catalan Bay was presumably, at any rate, in the mid-eighteenth century, between the second and third attack of Gibraltar 1727-1779. It as of now showed up on William Faden's guide wearing 1769-1775 and distributed in 1782, or in John Cheevers' guide 1785. Prior to that, it most likely was named "Catalan Battery", "Catalan Beach" or "Playa de los Catalanes".
