About Western
The Western Region is positioned in south Ghana, spreads from the Ivory Coast border in the west to the Central location within the east, consists of the capital and huge dual town of Sekondi-Takoradi on the coast, coastal Axim, and a hilly inland area which includes Elubo. It consists of Ghana's southernmost place, Cape Three Points, where crude oil was located in commercial quantities in June 2007. The area covers an area of 23,921 sq.Kms, and had a population of 2,376,021 on the 2010 Census; the modern respectable projected population is 3,093,201.
The largest rivers are the Ankobra River, the Bia River, and the Pra River within the east, with the Tano River partially forming the western national border. The vicinity is known for the UNESCO World Heritage Site and village of Nzulezo, constructed entirely on stilts and platforms over water, and the Ankasa Protected Area. There is a series of implementing Portuguese, Dutch, British, and Brandenburgian forts along the coast, constructed from 1512 on.
