Fort Patience
About Fort Patience
Fort Patience is a Dutch-built citadel positioned within the township of Apam, in the Central Region of Ghana. The castle was first built as a stone trading lodge in 1697 on the request of the King of Acron, with whom the Dutch had a treaty, and which became situated between the kingdoms of Fante and Agona, with whom the British had a treaty.
The executives of the Dutch West India Company had been quite cautious to establish a citadel in an area with minimum alternate, and handiest consented at the situation that it might be constructed at minimum expenses. The Acron have been no longer satisfied with this, and regularly threatened the Dutch with expulsion in the event that they could now not amplify the fortifications. As a end result, it took the Dutch five years to complete the constructing, that is why they gave it the name Fort Patience. By 1721 the motel have been transformed right into a shielding fortification, which sat on a craggy peninsula just out from the township to the south, imparting a commanding view of Apam's harbour to the north, and the Gulf Of Guinea coast to the south, east, and west.
