Fort Nassau
About Fort Nassau
Fort Nassau, near Moree, Ghana, turned into the primary castle that the Dutch hooked up on what would emerge as the Dutch Gold Coast. In 1612, Clantius constructed a reinforced castle at Mouri, which, due to the unfamiliarity of the Dutch with constructing inside the tropics, became notorious for its bad situations. In 1624, the Dutch significantly expanded the fort. Fort Nassau served as the capital of the Dutch Gold Coast from its establishment until 1637, while the Dutch captured Fort Elmina from the Portuguese.
At the cease of 1781 Captain Thomas Shirley in the frigate HMS Leander, collectively with the sloop-of-struggle Alligator, sailed for the Dutch Gold Coast with a convoy along with some merchant-vessels and transports.Britain turned into at conflict with the Dutch Republic and Shirley released an unsuccessful attack on 17 February on the Dutch outpost at Elmina, being repulsed 4 days later. From 1598 onward, Dutch traders traded on the Gold Coast of Africa. Although the Gold Coast became already settled via Portuguese, there has been little attempt to evict the Dutch, as the army sources were devoted to the battle in Europe.
