About Ziegelei Lage
The museum was opened in 2001 after a restoration of the acquired buildings, machinery, and equipment. The Ziegelei Lage is one of eight locations of the LWL Industriemuseum in Lage, North Rhine-Westphalia. The brickyard produced bricks from 1909 to 1979, and in 2001 it became a museum. In addition, a new exhibition building was built. The museum is a producing museum with showcases on certain dates in the year due to the many functional facilities of the old brickyard.
In the Hoffmann, ring furnace is made once a year for a few days’ bricks. Visitors can sculpt individual bricks by hand. A permanent exhibition informs about the history of brick production as well as the migrant industry. In 2016, the museum showed the special exhibition On the Pursuit of Happiness - 200 Years of Emigration from Westphalia to America to which a catalog was published.
