About Zerbst
Zerbst is a town in the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Until a regulatory change in 2007, Zerbst was the capital of the previous Anhalt-Zerbst district. Zerbst is arranged in the Anhalt-Wittenberg area, with its town focus situated on the Nuthe River around 13 km upper east of the Elbe, somewhere between Magdeburg and Wittenberg. In the 8th century the territory east of the Elbe was settled by Polabian Slavs Sorbs. Some portion of the outskirt area with the adjoining Saxon district around Magdeburg in the west, it was fused into the Gau Ciervisti of the Saxon Eastern March Marca Geronis around 937 over the span of the German Ostsiedlung.
In 1797, Zerbst turned into a segment of the Principality of Anhalt-Dessau. From 1891 to 1928 a steed drawn streetcar was worked in Zerbst, one of the longest getting by among such streetcars in Germany. On 1 July 2006, the town of Zerbst was renamed Zerbst/Anhalt. After a year, on 1 July 2007, the town of Zerbst/Anhalt was fused together with a few different regions of the Zerbst managerial district, making the restored Anhalt-Bitterfeld regulatory district with its capital at Kothen.
