Wolfsburg is situated at the Southern edge of the old waterway valley of the Aller at the Mittellandkanal Midland Canal. It is flanked by the districts of Gifhorn and Helmstedt. The manor "Wolfsburg" was first referenced in 1302 out of a report as the house of the respectable ancestry of Bartensleben. Initially a keep by the Aller, it was secured by a channel a few centuries later. In 1372, the main narrative reference to the Burg Neuhaus close Wolfsburg showed up. After the elimination of the Bartensleben line in 1742, the property and its Schloss Wolfsburg passed on to the Earls of the Schulenburg. The shared house was a significant manager for the adjacent settlements Rothenfelde and Heblingen.
