Wittenberg is a town in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Wittenberg is located on the River Elbe, 60 kilometers north of Leipzig and 90 kilometers south-west of Berlin, and has a population of 48,501 in 2008. Wittenberg is renowned for its nearby association with Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation, for which it got the honorific Lutherstadt.
