About Volklingen
Volklingen is a town in the area of Saarbrucken, in Saarland, Germany. It is arranged on the stream Saar, approx. 10 km west of Saarbrucken, and legitimately outskirts France. The town is known for its modern past, the Volklinger Hutte iron works being proclaimed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Volklingen is arranged on the rich alluvial plane at the conjunction of the stream Rossel and of the waterway Koller into the stream Saar.
In ancient history it was settled by Celtic clans, at that point by the Romans Volkingen was at first alluded to as "Fulcolingas" by Durandis, Vice Chancellor to Louis the Pious in 822. The Franks colonized the territory between the 5th and 9th century. Laborers living in the region were liable to tax collection by the Count of Saarbrucken. The laborers of Volkingen rebelled against the Count of Saarbrucken in 1566, when he requested the development of the Homburger chateau.
