About Shrine of Our Lady of Altotting
The Shrine of Our Lady of Altotting, also called the Chapel of Grace, is the national shrine of Bavaria devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is known for the many healings which can be said to have taken place there, and is typically known as the Lourdes of Germany. The octagonal chapel which homes the picture of Our Lady dates to about A.D. 660, and is the oldest Marian shrine in Germany. The image of Mary honored there is a Black Madonna of great antiquit, carved from lindenwood.
The shrine became a popular pilgrim destination when it have become known for the staggering recovery in 1489 of a younger boy who have been drowned, after his mom laid his frame earlier than the photo and prayed to the Blessed Mother for a miracle.
