Schluchtern
About Schluchtern
Schluchtern is a town in the Main-Kinzig locale, in Hesse, Germany. It is situated on the waterway Kinzig, around 30 km southwest of Fulda. Schluchtern has a population near 16,000. Schluchtern is situated in the Bergwinkel, the region between the Mittelgebirge or low heaps of the Vogelsberg, Spessart and Rhon. Likewise the stream Kinzig courses through the district, in southwest zone of a slope called Landrucken.
The town itself is referenced in a record without precedent for 1278. In any case, since by the mid-12th century there was a family utilizing that name, the town is likely more seasoned than that. The most established archived nearby foundation was the Benedictine nunnery of Schluchtern. An establishment record supposedly marked by Charlemagne was found to be a medieval fabrication. A possible first notice of the monastery dates from 819, however can't be credited without uncertainty to this area. The soonest notice that verifiably alluded to Schluchtern Abbey dates from 993, when Otto III conceded the nunnery sluohderin to the Bishop of Wurzburg.
