Sayn Castle
About Sayn Castle
The remains of Sayn Castle, the 12th century family mansion of the checks of Sayn and Sayn-Wittgenstein, are in Sayn, some portion of the district of Bendorf on the Rhine, among Koblenz and Neuwied in the province of Mayen-Koblenz in the German territory of Rhineland-Palatinate. The remains of the goad stronghold lie on the Kehrberg, a slope edge around 110 meters in length and 40 meters wide, in the lower regions of the Westerwald, between the valleys of the Brexbach and Saynbach. Beneath the vestiges, the town of Sayn extends away toward the south. At the foot of the mansion slope is Schloss Sayn, a Baroque structure dating to 1757.
While the southern, western and northern flanks of Sayn drop steeply into the valley, the level slope edge on the eastern side, from where the manor is gotten to, is secured by a profound and wide fake neck jettison. So as to give extra security a powerful shield divider with a divider walk was worked over the channel. In the northeastern region of the site stands a very much safeguarded, around 20-meter-high bergfried, which rules the presence of Sayn Castle. The development time of the bergfried, whose dividers are 2.4 meters thick in the center, dates to the late 12th century. A divider running south from the bergfried, likewise monitored by a charm, partitions the internal bailey into two patios.
