Plon Castle

Plon Castle in Plon is certainly one of the biggest castles inside the north German country of Schleswig-Holstein and the simplest one placed on a hill. The former Residenz of the Dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Plon was built inside the 17th century during the Thirty Years War and has had a colorful history wherein it has, as an instance, been a college for military cadets and also a boarding school. The fort ended the 20 th century as a ownership of the kingdom of Schleswig-Holstein, but they couldn't fund its maintenance and so it had to be bought once more.

Since January 2002 it has belonged to the Fielmann Akademie Schloss Plön and, after widespread conversion, serves as a education and qualification centre for a department of optometry. After being inaccessible to the general public for decades while it was a boarding college, its new proprietors have opened it to a restrained volume to site visitors.
