About Paderborn Cathedral
Paderborn Cathedral is the house of God of the Catholic Archdiocese of Paderborn. It is situated in the downtown area of Paderborn, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The church building is devoted to Saint Mary, Saint Kilian and Saint Liborius. The official German name is Hoher Dom Ss. Maria, Liborius und Kilian. The present house of God is situated in a position that has been involved by holy places for many years.
Charlemagne had a Kaiserpfalz worked close to the wellsprings of the Pader stream. As ahead of schedule as 777 this royal residence had an appended church, devoted to Christ Salvator Mundi and Brigit of Kildare. This congregation, found north of the present church building, filled in as house of prayer to the court just as a reason for teacher work among the Pagan Saxons.
Defiant Saxons over and again crushed this first church. After local people changed over to Christianity, the main house of prayer was manufactured. Pope Leo III met Charlemagne at Paderborn in 799 and blessed a raised area to Saint Stephen, keeping a few relics of that holy person in it. The primary church building of the recently settled priestly district was a three-aisled basilica, committed to Mary and Saint Kilian. In 806 Hathumar turned into the primary Bishop of Paderborn.
