About Osthaus Museum

The Karl Ernst Osthaus-Museum is a workmanship historical centre in Hagen, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Germany. The focal point of the historical centre is a building, whose inside was planned by Henry van de Velde to house Karl Ernst Osthaus' specialty gathering, opens to the general population as the Folkwang Museum. At the point when Osthaus' beneficiaries sold his specialty accumulation to the city of Essen, the city of Hagen picked up ownership of the vacant exhibition hall building. For a period it filled in as workplaces for the nearby electric organization.

After World War II, the new executive of Hagen's city workmanship historical centre, Herta Hesse, supervised the reclamation of the old Folkwang incorporating with another home for Hagen's specialty exhibition hall. In spite of the fact that the first inside plan was lost because of recreation and World War II bombings, the inside has been re-established a few times and gives a sensible estimation of Osthaus' unique gallery, if not its gathering.

Under her course, the exhibition hall concentrated on recovering what the city had lost when the Folkwang accumulation was sold to Essen. The historical centre turned into a concentration for shows of workmanship nouveau and expressionist craftsmanship, especially the craftsmen related with Osthaus or his specialty province. The sketch accumulation originates from private gifts and slow buys. It houses one of the fundamental accumulations of works of art by Christian Rohlfs and the most critical gathering of artistic creations by Emil Schumacher.
