About Magdeburg Cathedral
Magdeburg Cathedral is a Protestant cathedral in Germany and the oldest Gothic cathedral in the country. It is the proto cathedral of the previous Prince Archbishopric of Magdeburg. Today it is the most important church of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany. One of its steeples is 99.25 m tall, and the alternative is 100.98 m, making it one of the tallest cathedrals in eastern Germany.
The cathedral is also the landmark of Magdeburg, the capital city of the Bundesland of Saxony Anhalt, and is likewise home to the grave of Emperor Otto I the Great. The first church changed into founded September 21, 937 at the region of the current cathedral turned into an abbey known as St. Maurice, committed to Saint Maurice and financed by means of Emperor Otto I the Great. Otto desired to demonstrate his political strength after the hit Battle of Lechfeld in 955, and ordered the construction even before his coronation as Emperor on February 2, 962.
