About Kolumba
Kolumba is the craftsmanship exhibition hall of the archbishopric of Cologne. As a blend of place, accumulation and design it enables the guest to encounter two centuries of western culture in one building lodging workmanship from late relic to the present.
The design consolidates the remnants of the late Gothic church St. Kolumba, the sanctuary "Madonna in the Ruins" 1950, the one of a kind archeological uncovering 1973-1976, and the new building planned by the Swiss draftsman Peter Zumthor. The warm dark block of the enormous building joins with the tuffs, basalt, and blocks of the remnants.
A mystery cultivates, stone destroys an exceptionally thick archeological site: the remnants of the gothic church in the focal point of reconstructed Cologne are the most amazing image of the city's relatively total annihilation amid the Second World War.
Kolumba enables guests to inundate themselves within the sight of their recollections and offers them their own encounters on their way.
