About Homburg Castle
Homburg Castle is an old hill castle in Numbrecht, Oberbergischer Kreis in the German territory of North Rhine-Westphalia. The Homburg is first referenced in records of 1276. Gottfried I of Sayn from the House of Sponheim 1247-1283/84 exchanged his castrum Homburg to the German King Rudolf of Habsburg, so as to put it under his insurance. He got the mansion back as a legacy. The mansion was the living arrangement of the Counts of Homburg, a magnificent fiefdom.
From 1635 Count Ernst von Sayn-Wittgenstein modified the palace to its present-day appearance. Not until 1904 was its decrease ended and, in 1926, a historical center, established by Hermann Conrad, assumed control over the premises. Today it is the Museum of Oberbergisches Kreis. Toward the start of 2005 the district chamber chose to redesign the chateau. Their arrangements included bury alia the extension of the 'Red House' Rotes Haus and the development of a focal money work area and can zone. The old orangery was to be torn down and supplanted by another two-story organization and display building.
