About Hohenburg Castle
The Hohenburg, also known as Homburg Castle or Fortress Hohenburg, is a ruined fortress located Homburg in the Saarpfalz district in Saarland, Germany. It stands atop the 325 metres-excessive Schlossberg above the Schlossberg Caves. In the 12th century the castle was the seat of the counts of Homburg. In 1330 the acquired metropolis rights for his or her village at the foot of Schlossberg from the Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian. After the loss of life of the last Count of Homburg in 1449 fort and town fell to the counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken.
They rebuilt the citadel within the 2nd half of the sixteenth century into a renaissance palace, after which to a citadel. In the 1600s King Louis XIV of France and his grasp builder Sebastien Le Prestre de Vauban accelerated the fortress and fortified the metropolis. The simple shape of Homburg's old metropolis dates again to this time. The fortifications were first demolished in 1697, and in the end in 1714 when they served as a quarry for the construction of Karlsberg Castle. From 1981 the ruins had been excavated and partially restored.
