About High Vogelsberg Nature Park
The High Vogelsberg Nature Park lies in the highlands of the Vogelsberg in the centre of the German territory of Hesse. It covers the region of eleven rings around Oberwald, the focal piece of the mountain extend, certain regions in the provinces of Vogelsbergkreis, Wetteraukreis, Gieben and Main-Kinzig-Kreis. The recreation center has a territory of 883.36 km² and is in this way generally as extensive as the capital city of Berlin. The recreation center was assigned in 1956 as the High Vogelsberg Protected Area with a region of 225 km² and renamed in 1957 to the High Vogelsberg Conservation Park. Between 1963 and 1969 it was extended to 384.47 km², in 1967 it was renamed as the High Vogelsberg Nature Park.
In 2004 it was expanded by 883.36 km² to its present degree. The Vogelsberg is an old volcanic district with the biggest basalt mass in Europe. The nature park is portrayed by blended timberland, prairie and wetland biotopes just as a raised swamp. Various streams emanate every which way of the compass. One of the primary watersheds in Germany keeps running by Grebenhain. Among the waterways that ascent in the Vogelsberg are the Schwalm and Lauter, which are a piece of the Fulda bowl and in this way the Weser stream framework, and the Nidda, Nidder and Wetter which are a piece of the Main bowl and accordingly part of the Rhine catchment, just as the Ohm, which channels by means of the Lahn to the Rhine.
