About Herzberg Castle
Herzberg Castle is a German schloss in Herzberg am Harz in the district of Gottingen within the nation of Lower Saxony. The cutting edge, quadrangular building has its origins in the eleventh century as a medieval castle. After a hearth in 1510 it became rebuilt as a schloss and is one of the few in Lower Saxony that became built as a wood-framed building.
Because it belonged to the House of Welf for 700 years it's also referred to as the Welf Castle of Herzberg. Originally the schloss became a medieval castle that changed into based totally on a searching motel constructed on the spot between 1024 and 1029. The castle was in all likelihood built on the behest of King, later Emperor, Lothair III, called Lothair of Supplingenburg. In 1144, Herzberg Castle become given to the von Gottingen own family of ministerial from Bavaria by using the House of Welf, who charged them with preserving the citadel and its environment. Previously, Count Hermann of Lutterberge had lived right here, however he died in 1143 without any heirs who should inherit the fiefdom.
