Grimmen

Grimmen is a town in Vorpommern-Rugen, a district within the Bundesland Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Prior to 2011 whilst district reforms have been made in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern it become the capital of the now bygone Nordvorpommern district which became abolished and merged to create the district of Vorpommern-Rugen. Grimmen turned into founded in the course of the Ostsiedlung, while about 1250 traders and craftsman from Lower Saxony, Westphalia and the Lower Rhine settled the site which then became a part of the Principality of Rugen. The first file bringing up Grimmens is of 1267.

In 1287, a document mentions Vogt Berthold taking office within the city, and similarly mentions that Grimmen had already been granted Lubeck regulation earlier than. From 1695 to 1697, mayor Johannes Flittner cruelly pursued alleged witches; as a minimum seven had been achieved. In 1797, a big fire destroyed almost the whole metropolis.
