The downtown area was totally cleared out because of Allied bombarding assaults amid the Second World War, devastating about every single noteworthy structure. The RAF initially besieged Emden on 31 March 1940. The most serious bombarding occurred on 6 September 1944, when approximately 80 percent of all houses in the downtown area were devastated.
