Demmin

Demmin is a metropolis within the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. It was the capital of the former district of Demmin. The name might also originate from the Slavic time period timänie 'swampy area'. Another feasible origin for the call Demmin can be from Old Polabian dym 'smoke', regarding clearing land via burning to make settlement possible. In 1075, Adam of Bremen stated a combat over the fortress at Dimine.

In the direction of records, the name modified, and sources consult with Dymine and Dimin, Latinized to Dyminium, sooner or later Demmyn, and seeing that 1320 the metropolis has been recognized beneath its gift spelling Demmin. A famous clarification of the name, however with none historical basis, is as follows: two princesses constructed a castle referred to as Haus Demmin and promised every other Dat Hus is din und min 'That house is yours and mine.' Thus the call of the fort and of the metropolis is stated to have evolved.
