About Calw
Calw is a town in the middle of Baden Wurttemberg inside the south of Germany, capital and biggest town of the district Calw. It is located within the Northern Black Forest and is approximately 18 kilometers south of Pforzheim and 33 kilometers west of Stuttgart. It has the repute of a grosse Kreisstadt. Calw was first noted in facts in 1037. In the 11th century, the town grew across the older castle of the Grafen of Calw. In the center Ages, Calw became a vital business town, especially inside the cloth and leather trades. In 1345, Calw have become a part of Wurttemberg and via the 16th century, it had emerged as the summer house of the Dukes of Wurttemberg.
In the 18th century, Calw flourished from the lumber trade and rafting of timber on the river Nagold. Due to her romantic dating with a Polish guest worker all through World War II, 1 year old Calw resident Erna Brehm became publicly shaved bald inside the city's marketplace rectangular in August 1941. She served 8 months in jail in Calw and Stuttgart for violating Nazi Rassenschande legal guidelines before being deported to Ravensbruck concentration camp.
