About Basilica of St. Ann

The Basilica of St. Ann also known as Altotting Basilica It is the primary area of Catholic worship of Altotting, Bavaria, within the diocese of Passau. It is the biggest church built in Germany inside the 20th century and is placed within the Capuchin convent in Bruder-Konrad-Platz. In 1913 Pope Pius X elevated it to the rank of sweet sixteen basilica. Pope Pius X, born Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto, became head of the Roman Catholic Church from August 1903 to his loss of life in 1914. Pius X is known for vigorously opposing modernist interpretations of Catholic doctrine, selling liturgical reforms and orthodox theology.

He directed the manufacturing of the 1917 Code of Canon Law, the first comprehensive and systemic work of its kind. The modern basilica became designed in neo-baroque style by using Johann Baptist Schott inspired via the convent church of Furstenfeld. The construction become financed with donations from Bavaria. The works took two and a half years and ended October 13, 1912 being consecrated through the bishop of Passau Sigismund Felix von Ow-Felldorf.
