About Bach Archive
The Bach-Archiv Leipzig also known by the name of Bach-Archiv is a foundation for the documentation and research of the life and work of Johann Sebastian Bach.
The Bach-Archiv additionally looks into the Bach family, particularly their music. Situated in Leipzig, the city where Bach lived from 1723 until his passing, the Archiv is perceived by the German government as a "social signal" of national significance.
Since 2008 the Bach-Archiv has been a piece of the University of Leipzig.
At the season of the's establishment Leipzig was in East Germany. Before German unification there was coordinated effort with Bach specialists in West Germany.
For instance, the second release of Bach's entire works, the Neue Bach-Ausgabe, was a joint venture between the Bach-Archiv and the Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Institut in Göttingen, West Germany.
