Altena

Altena is a town in the district of Markischer Kreis, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The town's mansion is the source for the later Dukes of Berg. Altena is arranged on the Lenne waterway valley, in the northern stretches of the Sauerland. Altena Castle was worked in the mid 12^th century, as a fortification of the more seasoned Counts of Berg. A brief timeframe later a town was established underneath the slope, with the stronghold close by the waterway Lenne, which bolsters into the stream Ruhr. After the conveyance of the Berg family bequests in 1161, Altena turned into the focal point of the County of Altena.

The main Count of Altena moved toward becoming Eberhard I, Count of Berg-Altena. In 1180, after the demise of the principal tally, the region was partitioned between the two most established children: Arnold of Altena and Friedrich of Altena. In May 2017 Chancellor Merkel granted Altena Mayor Andreas Hollstein the "National Prize for Integration" for taking in 370 evacuees, i.e., 100 more than the compulsory portion.
