The previous capital of Georgia makes them exceptional cases of medieval religious design.

The site is accepted to have been settled since around 3000-2000 BC.

Its gentle atmosphere and its rich soil together with its key area at the juncture of the Aragvi and Mtki streams made it a perfect home for human habitation.

One of its most imperative landmarks is Samtavro, where a little domed church was initially built in the fourth century.

The grave of Mirian, the Georgian lord who received Christianity, exists in the congregation.

Another noteworthy religious site is the Svetitskhoveli church.

Based on the site of a wooden church, the complex incorporates an eleventh century house of prayer. Initially its inside was enriched with divider artworks, yet these were whitewashed over.
