About Sword Beach
Sword, normally known as Sword Beach, was the code name given to one of the five principle landing zones along the Normandy coast amid the underlying strike stage, Operation Neptune, of Operation Overlord, the Allied intrusion of German-involved France that started on 6 June 1944. Extending 8 kilometers from Ouistreham to Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer, the shoreline was the easternmost landing site of the attack.
Taking Sword was to be the obligation of the British Army with ocean transport, mine general, and a maritime barrage constrain given by the British Royal Navy just as components from the Polish, Norwegian and other Allied naval forces. Among the five shorelines of the activity, Sword is the closest to Caen, being situated around 15 kilometers from the objective of the third Infantry Division. The underlying arrivals were accomplished with low losses, yet the development from the shoreline was impeded by traffic blockage and obstruction in vigorously protected territories behind the foothold.
