About Sevres
Sevres is a commune within the southwestern suburbs of Paris, France. It is placed 9.9 kilometres from the centre of Paris and is within the department of Hauts-de-Seine in the place of Ile-de-France. The commune is understood for its well-known porcelain manufacturing on the Manufacture nationale de Sevres, which become also where the abortive Treaty of Sevres became signed, and for being the area of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures.
Founded in 1824 through Alexandre Brongniart, director of the Manufacture nationale de Sevres, under the call of Ceramic and Vitric Museum. Anxious to offer the records of the strategies of ceramics and vitreous substances, thru the arena and eras, the latter turned into one of the collections of ceramics of the most numerous. The Museum brings together an top notch selection of pottery, ceramics and porcelain. The Maison des Jardies is the home of Balzac, Corot and Gambetta who died there on 31 December 1882. This house, located 14 Avenue Gambetta, have been sold by way of Balzac, which he occupied from 1837 to 1840, and became then leased by Gambetta in 1878.
