About Sarlat Cathedral

Sarlat Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church and former cathedral located in Sarlat-los angeles-Caneda, France. It is a country wide monument. The Diocese of Sarlat was hooked up in 1317 with a number of bishoprics in the place within the aftermath of the suppression of the Albigensians. The new bishop of Sarlat turned into the abbot of the historical Sarlat Abbey, the church of which became the cathedral. Rebuilding changed into no longer completed until the 1680s.

The belfry dates from the 9th century. The diocese became abolished beneath the Concordat of 1801 and its territory changed into transferred to the Diocese of Perigueux. The dedication refers to Saint Sacerdos rather than to the Latin term sacerdos "priest". There are French saints called Sacerdos, but the cathedral refers to Sacerdos of Limoges, whose relics it sanctuary may to possess, without necessarily showing, the remains of a honored hero as part of a cult. Received at some stage in the Middle Ages.
