Saint-Chamond is a collective in the Loire office in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes area in focal France. The town dates to the Roman time frame. It lies in an iron and coal district, which were the premise of modern development amid the 19th and 20th century. The city created on the two sides of the Gier River, which source is on Mont Pilat. The stream streams east down the Gier valley for 44 kilometers before entering the Rhone at Givors. The present city of Saint-Chamond is the aftereffect of the merger in 1964 of the collectives of Saint-Martin-en-Coailleux, Saint-Julien-en-Jarez, Izieux and Saint-Chamond.
