About Pau
The city is situated in the core of the previous sovereign Principality of Béarn, of which it was the capital from 1464. Flanked by the Gave de Pau, the city is found 100 kilometers 62 mi from the Atlantic Ocean and 50 kilometers from Spain. This position gives it an extraordinary scene over the mountain slope of the Pyrenees and in addition on the slopes of Jurançon
.The history of Pau is set apart by the introduction of Henry of Bourbon 13 December 1553 in the palace of his grandparents. He accessed the position of authority of France in 1589 under the title of Henry IV.
